How Can Esketamine (Spravato) Help You?
Major depressive disorder can be a difficult condition to overcome, especially when you aren’t responding well to various antidepressants. Spravato is a medication that is used to assist those who struggle with treatment-resistant depression.
It is delivered in the form of nasal spray and is self-administered in the presence of a trained and approved medical professional. It is designed to be used in conjunction with your regularly prescribed oral antidepressant.
Many patients who have used Spravato for 16 weeks of therapy have indicated that their depression symptoms were reduced after four weeks when compared to patients who received a placebo or oral antidepressant alone.
Spravato is the first FDA-approved ketamine therapy for treatment-resistant depression. It is only available by experienced and certified physicians. It is prescribed by us and administered in our office. Spravato is approved for adults who are taking an oral antidepressant and are still feeling depressed, or for those who have failed other therapies (such as ECT or TMS).
Spravato is covered by most insurance. After insurance approval, you will come to our office and self-administer Spravato in a private room under physician supervision. During your treatment, you will be safely monitored in a private room in our office. After your treatment, you will be evaluated by the doctor and speak briefly about your experience. We will adjust your therapy accordingly for maximum positive results. You are free to leave soon after the treatment is over.
After you take SPRAVATO™, you will be monitored for at least two hours during the observation period for possible side effects. SPRAVATO™ is taken twice a week for the first four weeks. After the first four weeks, it is then taken once a week for a month.
After this, SPRAVATO™ is usually taken either once a week or once every two weeks. Length of treatment can vary from patient to patient, but after 16 weeks of therapy, patients who stayed on SPRAVATO™ did better than those who stopped therapy.
- You will administer SPRAVATO™ nasal spray yourself under the supervision of a healthcare professional at our certified SPRAVATO™ treatment center.

Facts About Spravato
Spravato is approved for adults (18+) with treatment-resistant depression or depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder with suicidal thoughts or actions.
You will be awake throughout the treatment. You may feel euphoric or enter into a meditative state. It is in this meditative state that patients may have breakthroughs initiated by ketamine, allowing them to “unlock” different parts of the brain to approach the issues from different perspectives, thus resolving deep-seated problems during treatment.
All treatments are done in a private room in our office under supervision for your safety.
Yes, this is an out-patient treatment which means you go home the same day. However, you must have a ride home arranged before your arrival as you cannot drive after your treatment.
